BIRD WATCHING

There are many species of birds on Woody Island for the avid bird watcher. Whether they are soaring over head or perched in the trees, there's lots to see.
BEACH COMBING

Island has numerous sandy and rocky beaches and all have treasures to find. From shells, sand dollars, and little creatures to driftwood and tidal pools, you'll find numerous fascinating objects on your stroll.
FISHING AND COD JIGGING

Woody Island Resort was once home to a population of mainly fishermen and many return to fish each summer. Depending on the time of year, you can try your hand at cod jigging or at any time of the year you can cast your line off the wharf or from the rowboat to catch a connor, a tomcod, or a sculpin.
WHALE WATCHING

Placentia Bay plays host to a number of different wildlife species including whales and dolphins. Many of our guests on the Merasheen have been amazed at the beauty and gracefulness of these creatures. Humpback whales, blue whales and bottle nose dolphins have all passed through our waters. Don't be surprised if you see some on your trip.
KAYAKING

Guided kayaking tours are now available at Woody Island Resort. Every year, Woody Island is the destination for kayakers. Imagine paddling through the beautiful waters of Placentia Bay surrounded by spectacular scenery and breathtaking landscapes. Take some time to examine isolated coves and secluded inlets. Feel the crisp ocean air on your face. If you have never tried kayaking, now is the perfect time.
PADDLE BOATS

If kayaking isn't your thing, Woody Island Resort offers paddle boats to its guests. Take a spin around the harbour or paddle leisurely along.
ISOLATED COVES

Several scenic isolated coves are within a few minutes walk of the lodges. You can collect sand dollars, explore the tidal zones or just watch the water lap upon the shore.
THE STORE LOFT MUSEUM

A visit to our Store Loft Museum is a must. It has a wide range of Newfoundland artifacts. See how many you can identify.
ROWBOATS

Woody Island Resort offers rowboats for our guests to enjoy. Go for a spin around the harbour or take one out and cast a few lines.
TRIP ON THE BAY

Enjoy a good hearty breakfast because you'll need the energy. On Day 2 of your Woody Island Adventure our skipper will take you cruising through Placentia Bay. Don't be surprised if you see some whales, dolphins, or even bald eagles. Stay up on the deck or relax in our heated cabins.
BEACH PICNIC

During your trip on the bay, you will travel to another deserted island to enjoy a beach picnic. Feel free to hike around the harbour or just sit by the fire and enjoy some music as you wait for the kettle to boil. Lunch consists of soup or stew, sandwiches made from homemade bread, homemade squares or teabuns, as well as tea, coffee or a cold drink. After lunch is cleared away, it's back on the Merasheen for the trip back to Garden Cove.
LIVE ENTERTAINMENT

This vacation package includes an evening of entertainment. Kick up your heels and clap your hands to live music. Perhaps you would like to sing along. This Newfoundland spree is a lot of fun and a lot of laughs. So let loose and unwind. Maybe you'll discover the entertainer in you.
CHAT WITH FISHERMEN

Woody Island is still a thriving fishing community and a summer home to many of these fishermen who, along with their families and friends, spend some time on the island each summer. If not too busy they will share a yarn or fill you in on the history of the island.

BONFIRES

Cozy up around a warm bonfire at night. Tell ghost stories or just enjoy the glow of the fire.
