Island Rendezvous is operated by Loyola Pomroy, Gary Pomroy and Sheila Hollett.
Loyola was born in Merasheen, Placentia Bay, a
neighbouring community of Woody Island. After several years
in the banking business and after operating his own retail
business, he fulfilled a long-time ambition to go back to
his roots in Placentia Bay and give people a real true "life
around the bay" experience.
Gary was born in Merasheen and moved to Placentia under
the Government Resettlement Program in 1968. He is "skipper"
of the M.V. Merasheen and he handles all the marine aspects
of the operation, including the transportation of passengers
to and from Woody Island, the tour on the bay, whale
watching, etc. He can sometimes be persuaded to play you a
jig on the accordian.
Sheila, who manages the property, was born on Woody Island
and moved under the Resettlement Program in 1978. She and
her husband Freeman still maintain their home there as
Freeman returns and pursues the fishery each summer and
Sheila takes over the operation of Island Rendezvous. Sheila
will ensure that you are made comfortable, fed well and will
oblige you with a story or two about her island home.
